DOG-FRIENDLY SAVANNAH

As most of my clients quickly discover, I am a dog and cat lover! (Disclosure: I always have a lint roller with me!) My  pets, Henry, a spunky cat discovered under a neighbor’s porch and Abbi, a Labradoodle adopted from a shelter are such blessings to my family.

Savannah is a such a pet-friendly city that you’ll find many of the shops, restaurants and businesses don’t mind if you bring your best buddy along.

One of the things I share with my clients relocating to the area is to get a dog. This is such a dog-friendly community that you’ll find yourself immersed in opportunities for doggie playgroups, dog-walkers and social activities revolving around dogs (Wag-o-ween for example!)

Visit Savannah also has wonderful suggestions of places to check out with your dog:

Savannah understands that pets are just as important as any other family member, which is why the city is filled with so many dog-friendly activities.

RIVER STREET

Walk your pup along the Savannah riverfront on beautiful cobblestone-lined River Street. Many restaurants, like Huey’s RestaurantOlympia Café or Tubby’s Seafood, offer outside seating. Watch the barges and boats pass by on the sparkling water while enjoying a delicious meal with your dog at your side! After your meal, stroll to the end of River Street to find the spacious Emmet Park, which is filled with memorials and plenty of room to run around.

CITY MARKET

Bustling City Market welcomes dogs to join in on the fun. Sit outside Wild Wing Cafe and listen to live music or enjoy a succulent steak at Belford’s Savannah Seafood & Steaks. If your pup is small enough to carry, bring them inside Savannah’s Candy Kitchen and grab a fresh praline. Before you leave the area, let your dog cool off by grabbing a drink at the doggie water fountain in Ellis Square.

BROUGHTON STREET

The popular Broughton Street is no stranger to the dog scene. Many of the restaurants have several outside tables and water bowls for your pup! Grab a freshly-brewed coffee at The Coffee Fox, munch on a macaron from The Paris Market or find the perfect outfit for the night at Copper Penny. End your journey along Broughton Street at Leopold’s Ice Cream, where your dog can enjoy a free pup sundae topped with a biscuit.

STARLAND DISTRICT

Savannah’s Starland District offers great atmosphere to visitors and their furry friends. Sip on a Horchata Latte from Foxy Loxy Cafe while checking out local artwork, or devour a Green Goat Panini and Tomato Thai soup from Starland Cafe & Gallery. If you happen to be visiting on the first Friday of the month, check out the Art March, an art-filled festival that features Starland District businesses, restaurants, artists, performances and so much more.

MOON RIVER DISTRICT

Venture outdoors and explore Savannah’s Moon River District, located only 20 mintues south of downtown. Walk six miles of trails at the Skidaway Island State Park or journey down the breathtaking avenue of live oaks and Spanish moss at Wormsloe State Historic Site. Your dog will be over the moon that you skipped the call to doggy day care!
