Just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of city living and from the sun-kissed beaches on Tybee Island, the Islands area just east of downtown Savannah is home to many quiet, small residential enclaves. The Savannah Yacht Club serves as a cultural anchor on Whitemarsh Island, attracting recreational boaters of all ages. Private communities like Marsh Harbor, Turner’s Cove and Long Point offer coastal elegance at its finest, with plenty of recreational amenities. Nestled on the banks of the Wilmington River, Isle of Hope is one of Savannah’s best kept secrets and most desirable communities. Bluff Drive offers spectacular historic homes overlooking the water in this breezy waterfront haven. With easy access to the mainland, great schools and a bike-friendly layout, the Isle of Hope enclave is particularly popular with growing families and retirees. The historic Sandfly neighborhood near Montgomery Cross Road and Skidaway Road includes appealing homes as well as easy access to popular shopping centers and restaurants. Originally established in the 19th century, Sandfly includes beloved local restaurants like Castaways, Jalapenos and Sandfly BBQ and is located near Bacon Park, a large multi-use recreational area.

Nestled on 500 acres, Dutch Island is a popular gated community with 480 homes designed for coastal living. One of the most historic communities in southeast Georgia, Dutch Island has records dating back to 1759, when King George II granted 30 acres of land to early Georgia planter Peter Radick. Surrounded by the Herb River, Wilmington River and Skidaway River, Dutch Island has spectacular waterfront views and a family-friendly environment. Amenities include tennis courts, a swimming pool, fire pit and beach volleyball court as well as a community dock, boat ramp and pier.

Burnside Island is a secluded barrier island community overlooking the Intercoastal Waterway and the Vernon River, with spectacular waterfront homes with deepwater docks. Located just north of Green Island Sound, Burnside Island is home to neighborhoods like Rivers Edge At Camp Strachan and is ideal for anyone with a love of the water, boating and fishing. The family of iconic songwriter Johnny Mercer once had a home on Burnside Island, called Vernon View, which inspired some of Mercer’s most legendary songs. Moon River, is located near the Diamond Causeway, served as the inspiration for the infamous song by the same name.

This suburban-style island is located just off Hwy. 80 on the way to Tybee Island from downtown Savannah. Talahi Island offers a variety of homes for families, professionals and retirees, with easy access to the beach or to the downtown area. This quiet, laid-back island is defined by stunning water views, refreshing breezes and casual coastal living.

Located in unincorporated Chatham County, the historic Beaulieu community was once known as a summer resort for wealthy Savannah residents in the 19th century. Historic homes surrounded by live oaks draped with Spanish moss make for a picturesque setting overlooking the Vernon River. Beaulieu Avenue serves as the primary access road for this quiet waterfront neighborhood.

Nestled within the historic riverfront town of Thunderbolt, Isle of Armstrong is located just off Hwy. 80 and provides a quiet setting for single-family homes and apartment-style living. Isle of Armstrong appeals to residents who enjoy the charm of Thunderbolt and easy access to downtown Savannah as well as the beaches on Tybee Island.

Best known as the home of the Oatland Island Wildlife Center, Oatland Island also has an extensive neighborhood of ranch-style homes and waterfront properties overlooking the Wilmington River and numerous creeks and estuaries. With easy access to Hwy. 80 and Islands Expressway, Oatland Island is conveniently situated just minutes from Tybee Island, Savannah and surrounding areas.
