Southside / Georgetown
With easy access to I-95, Hwy. 17 and Oglethorpe Mall, the Southside area of Savannah is a convenient place to call home. This bustling business and residential district is situated near the Vernon River and offers residences as varied as the businesses found within, ranging from classic ranch homes to mid-century modern masterpieces.
Developed in the 1960s, the Southside is home to the city’s malls, hospitals, big box stores and established national chains. This part of town offers easy access to I-95 and the Truman Parkway, and is popular with families and people who work downtown or in Pooler.
Here’s a quick overview of some of the most popular Southside neighborhoods:
WINDSOR FOREST
This spacious, tree-lined neighborhood was originally developed in the 1960s and 1970s, with one- story ranch homes nestled on oversized lots. Windsor Forest has a strong neighborhood feel with parks, schools and shops located nearby.
VERNONBERG
Tucked along the Vernon River, this historic Southside neighborhood has a number of homes that have belonged to local families for generations. Low-key and quiet, this residential neighborhood offers stunning water views and a tight-knit atmosphere.
COFFEE BLUFF
Towards the end of Coffee Bluff Road, the pace of life seems to slow down, giving way to neighborhoods with large backyards. Overlooking the Little Ogeechee River, this family-friendly area features single-family homes, as well as condominiums located near the Coffee Bluff Marina.
GEORGETOWN
Located further south along Hwy. 204, Georgetown is a popular and affordable area to call home, with a wide range of single-family homes, apartments and townhomes available. A number of subdivisions offer relaxed suburban living and easy access to amenities.
